  • Contact Double Staves

These Contact Double Staves are the intermediary step between Double Staves and Contact Staves, allowing for smooth Stick on Stick spinning combos. They come in three sizes/weight combinations and all have internal end weighting added under the wicks.
Body
These staves are made from 5/8” diameter 7075-T6 aluminum, which is one of the strongest aluminum alloys and is the equivalent to many titanium alloys. The diameter fits comfortably in the hands and rolls slowly for excellent control. Half-ounce weights embedded under each wick increase rotational inertia, helping keep these staves spinning.

Exposed Metal
Most severe equipment burns come from searing-hot exposed metal, not from the wicks. To minimize exposed metal, these wicks are attached with recessed rivets (less exposed metal than screws and no need for retightening). The tube ends are covered with two wick layers, creating a lasting cover over the potentially sharp and hot metal edge. The aluminum between the grip and wicks is covered with silicone that diffuses heat, allowing you to safely touch within inches of burning wicks.

Grip
We provide two grip options to meet your specific needs. For contact staff we tend to recommend Nimbus grip first with Om and classic grip as close runners up depending on an artist's preferences. If you really need the best possible grip for wet conditions, you can't beat EPDM but it does ware faster than the other options.

Nimbus Grip is a silicone foam based grip and is the latest in staff grip technology. It combines the best features of EPDM foam (great in moist or dusty conditions and slightly squishy for enhanced griping) with the additional benefits of being silicone based (much higher durability, two color options, natural heat resistance). The white option will get dirty over time and you will never get it perfectly white again. However, if you toss your staff in the air at night, you will be able to see it vs a black grip. Compared to EPDM, this grip will not rub off on you and is close but not quite as good in wet conditions. Classic grip is thinner but losses its grippiness much faster. Om grip is thicker and not as grippy.

Om Grip is a yoga mat based grip with adhesive-backing. It has more give then the other two options and is slightly less grippy than Nimbus grip. Om grip is especially good for dragon staff work, where you don't want the hair on your arms pulled out and the extra cushion will allow for longer practice times. It comes in four colors options and doesn't leave residue on your arms after use (like EPDM does). It is not as grippy as Nimbus grip, so for those artist looking for the most tacky staff grip, Nimbus or EPDM is probably a better option.

Burn time / Flame Size
These staves' 3" wicks burn for 5:00 - 6:00 minutes.* They produce medium-large sized flames.

* Burn times are estimated based on recorded burns using pure "white gas" / Coleman's Liquid Camp Fuel. Actual burn times may vary based on individual spinning style, length of fuel soak, and other factors.
