The important factors to consider when selecting a meteor are proper rope length, heat and abrasion resistant rope, proper weight distribution, and minimal hardware.
Rope
The Meteor tether is made from 3/16" Technora, the new standard for Poi Leashes. Able to withstand temperatures up to 932°F, it provides the necessary heat resistance and durability for all types of Meteor work.
Heads
Meteors use 4" Novas heads by default. These heads are heavy enough to provide the rotational inertia necessary to keep the meteor spinning, without exhausting your arms with their weight. They are also very durable and can withstand repeated ground impacts, which is a risk of many meteor styles. These heads have an approximately 5:30 minute burn.*
* Burn times are estimated based on recorded burns using pure "white gas" / Coleman's Liquid Camp Fuel. Actual burn times may vary based on individual spinning style, length of fuel soak, and other factors.
Hardware
Most severe equipment burns come from searing-hot exposed metal, not from the wicks. Because of the Technora's heat resistance, you need minimal chain separating the heads' flames from the ropes. With only a quicklink and a ball bearing swivel, your meteor movements are smoother, and you greatly remove the risk of touching hot chains.
